(Somewhat off topic) What determines whose headshots show up in the banner? (Answered)

Having started to actively participate in this community over the last month, I'm intrigued by the algorithm used to pick the headshots which show up in the header of the website.

Does anyone have insights into that as I tend to see some folks photos show up very regularly whereas others are infrequent?

Good question Kiron ... I rarely actually notice. I would be interested in the answer though as well.

Good question. I never notice the banner and forgot it was there until you mentioned it.

The site editors and PMI Engagement Specialists probably do. I've raised this question before to them and requested that they consider updating it. If I am not mistaken, it has been the same since I joined almost 2 years ago.

IMHO, they should updated frequently to reflect the top contributors and most active members.

A quick update - I sent a question to projectmanagement.com's customer service group and the customer service agent who responded indicated:

"The head shots are picked by staff from the top contributors and influencers on the site. They are then placed into a pool where they are randomly placed in the banner."

Thanks Kiron. I had the same question earlier, although I assumed top contributors are shown.

Hi Kiron, there are some with low influence scores in the banner, so it must be something else.

Hmmm, very interesting.
I doubt this "mystique pool" needs to be updated, cause like Rami stated, the pictures are more or less the same since I have joined too (a bit earlier than Rami).
And there are pictures from members who might be very active or influencing in the past but no longer and other, very active and influencing members didn't ...

It seems this is another part of the site (like the PMChallenge for instance) which needs an update.

Markus -

I'd agree - it doesn't appear to be automated, otherwise you'd see much more change in the headshots.

Assuming the maintenance of the site is done by volunteers, it might simply be a question of capacity and an opportunity to leverage some simple automation to eliminate the manual, subjective effort of picking headshots...

Kiron,

There are so many things on this site that needs to be updated and PMI as far as I am aware are working on them in priority order. Some of those items are:

1- You can see some badges that are not applicable anymore but still there in the badges list.

2- Update of NOD's, PM Challenge Questions.

3- Headshots List: I've opened this subject several times as I believe it is important to update this more frequently, not every couple of years. I think this should be on the priority to-do list.

As an overall, since I've joined two years ago, there has been big enhancements to this site in so many ways but there is still more to be done.

I agree with Rami: PMI has more important things to change on the web site than the head shot.
