Hello All,

I am currently in the project where we need to define business scenarios to be implemented for our ERP package. Does anyone have any template or methodology on developing business scenarios? Your help is greatly appreciated. Please email me via [email protected]

I look forward to hearing from you soon!

Lily, the fastest way I know of building scenarios is to map out the core cross functional workflows and then map into those how the ERP will be used to improve and leverage those efforts. There are several texts on workflow mapping out there (check amazon.com). I would also be happy to send you my book on process improvement. Just email me your postal address and it will be on its way. [email protected]

Hi Michael, I have been working with business process re-design in the mortgage industry and we've been having a hard time to find a good methodology to document the current business process and propose a future business scenario. So far, we've been using only cross-functional flowcharts, supported by structured narratives. I would be very happy if I could get some insights from your book on process improvement. Could I receive a copy too?

Thanks

No doubt following a good book is helpful, but to build Business scenarios most important is having knowledge and grip on the real time business transactions

I agree. Having knowledge of the real time business transactions is something important. However, I'm looking for the best practice of documenting them, after the business gathering phase. Would you see something beyond swinlanes and process narratives, though?

John, there is absolutely a more beyond swim lanes and process narratives. The documentation set provides an integrated set of models that map directly into the business and process improvement intiative objectives. They are born from years of field experience that look at the organization as a dynamic set of value delivery systems where people, processes, culture, and technology come together to achieve world-class results.

But there is more than just models, there is a philosophy, a structured facilitation process and a diagnostic process that are critical to the success of PI projects.

John you will need to email me your postal address if you would like a book. [email protected].

Lily,

Attached is a copy of my book. I think you will find the scenario based approach to process analysis helpful.
