PMI Membership automatically renew?

I saw today some PMI members complaining in Social Media about PMI Membership that will be automatically renewed and charged on their credit cards.

They explained that they received a PMI e-Mail with this information.

I checked my e-mail and I don't have any notification from PMI.

Are you aware of this? Did you receive this e-mail?

My membership is due in February. I don't have it set to auto-renew because I am gainfully unemployed. I get an email and regular snail mail when it comes time to renew. The option is always there should I choose to have a surprise bill come next renewal.

When you become a new member or if you are an existing member, you will be presented with the automatic renewal terms at the point of purchase. This feature provides continuous access to your PMI benefits without interruption. If for any reason you’d like to change your status, simply visit your myPMI profile.

I just renewed my membership a couple weeks ago on the same day I renewed by certification. Yes the default option for Automatic Renewal was turned on but did not give me an option to turn it off during the renewal process. If I remember correctly it had a message label that said I could turn it off later. The option to turn it off is on your Profile Page - left menu item "Membership Automatic Renewal" which brings up a page with a button to turn on/off automatic renewal. I chose to turn it off for the simple reason - I change my credit cards regularly to protect myself from identity theft. I also place a calendar reminder one month before expiration date to renew the membership.

Now I noticed the PMP certification renewal (every three years) does not have an option for automatic renewal probably because it needs an explicit acceptance of the Code of Conduct before renewal. I have a calendar reminder setup for that too.

I haven't set auto renewal on. I did receive reminder email and also a call from PMI representative. My renewal is pending soon.

I recently renewed. Auto-renewal was automatically set during the process. Had to go to a separate section of the site to deselect that option. It was clearly stated that auto-renewal was set and how to change it.

I'm sure that this was the "issue" that the user saw, because I'm still waiting to receive an answer from the user that posted in LinkedIn his frustration.

I received notification from my bank that my credit card credentials have been used for renewal of PMI membership. PMI has used my Card details without intimation. I never opted the option of automatic renewal. It seems when they rolled this automatic renewal feature it was by default "ON". This should be rectified by PMI or atleasat revert the transaction.
