Hi guys,
I am a junior project portfolio manager, I would like to improve my way of work. there is a PPM software in my company, but I mostly use excel worksheets for budget tracking, resource management, etc.. and another excel dashboard to summarize all information I have. I feel like I spend most of my time on updating, sanity check, etc. and lesser time in portfolio analysis and optimization. Which is my question: What tools do you use in your daily life of a project portfolio manager?

If you use Excel, Nambi, you will be consistently working on feeding your spreadsheets. Even if you were to automate the feeds, they would have to be custom-developed and require ongoing maintenance.
You should look at using a tool as Entry's TeamHeadquarters that can roll up costs and resources across all your projects and programs. Not only will the tool save you all that effort but it will provide you with the analytics to do what you are meant to do.

We use ITM Platform and I also use Teamwork PM, but I wouldn't say either of them are designed particularly for portfolio management. I agree that something that can roll up data across multiple projects and present a consolidated view will be a great help - that and getting your team members to capture the data themselves in real time to save you a job. It looks like my version of THQ might not support MS Project export. I was, however, able to import tasks from a Project file.

Thanks Stephane, I emailed them last Weds to ask about which versions of the software & which versions of MS Project are needed for this feature. I'll update this when I get a reply.
