I chose CAPM because i believe it is the right certification to get me into project management field. I could have chosen PMP as i have 11 years of experience in projects but as an engineering professional.
I did not want to be paper project manager. I am ready to embark on my next career journey in Project management.
What are your opinions on right approach to start a career in Project Management? Saving Changes...

With your background as a project manager, no matter if it was in engineering, IT, or some other field, you should consider the PMP. CAPM is great for someone who is just starting out and gives you a leg up as you pursue your PM experience toward the PMP. A PMP should be able to pick up any type of project, no matter what field it is in by the time they are certified. Saving Changes...
I am currently in the sales and wish to enter into the field of project management. I have the education but not sure if my experiences will help land a career in the field. I have considered the CAPM certification as well. What are some suggestions on getting a foot in the field? Saving Changes...

Start by reading up on project management (at the PMI.org website). Little do we realize that a lot of the daily activities we do are missed as project management experience. You'll need someone to validate your work as projects, but remember that a project is defined as (taken directly from PMI): "A project is temporary in that it has a defined beginning and end in time, and therefore defined scope and resources. And a project is unique in that it is not a routine operation, but a specific set of operations designed to accomplish a singular goal." You'll need experience leading these types of endeavors, plus be prepared to be tested on the information int he PMBOK. I found the best way to prep is to live it. And to rely on people like those in this site, who can help along the way. Saving Changes...

I totally agree with William, PMP is the way to go. I am not sure what you exactly mean by being a "Paper Project Manager" ? and how will CAPM influence the paper PM you are referring to ?

I have project experience but not really project management experience .I am working in project execution team and it is mainly engineering studies and calculations stuff .
By Paper project manager what i meant was I don't want to just get certified for sake of certification .
Following is my approach
1. Get CAPM certified and ask my employer for project management role .
2.Work on small ,medium and big scale project to gain solid project management experience .
3. Get PMP certificate to validate my project management experience .
As you mentioned, you have 11 years of experience into Projects, you should go for PMP instead of CAPM as it is advanced level. As far as I understand you are eligible for the PMP and by attending bootcamp and preparing for some time, you can become certified PMP. Saving Changes...

You can't be certified for the sake of certification: the experience, education and knowledge prerequisites for the PMP insures against that. Saving Changes...

I do not know of any employer who views the CAPM as an indicator of project management skills. Be prepared to defend your choice with any new project or client.

My employer has a project management career path wherein entry level project manager role needs to have CAPM and 0-1 year of experience in project management .
