Defining a Project by man-hours

The client I am currently working for is still in the midst of defining their IT processes around what is a project and what is a work request. Currently, a project is defined as being more than 25 hours of work or $100,000 in cost. They would like to raise that effort level, but are unclear on what the new minimum should be. I'm looking to see if there are any industry standards out there that I can convey.

Dear Mike, I am unaware of an industry standard, but a number of companies and their SOX consultants that we work with use 80 hours of time and $25,000 of cost as a "work request" vs. "project" guideline. Cheers. -- Mark Perry, VP of Customer Care, BOT International
