Handling change requests

Can some one please explain me about the methodologies adopted in handling change requests like
1.Grouping of change requests
2.Analysis of change requests and there impact
3.Change request priortisation
4.Managing changes to scope arising from a change request
5.Analysis the impact of change request across the system particularly in an ERP environment

In my experience Change Requests in themselves are not so difficult to manage its balancing competing priorities and managing user expectations that is the trick. The applicatioin environmnent should not have any impact of the method. Its not about the technology but about the organization, its temperment and attitude towards instant or delayed gratification. You might look at ITIL's standards on service level management or maybe these links might be helpful.
