Ode to the Technical background

Hello All,

Here's an interesting question (at least, I think so) for many of you to mull over. The majority of PM's out there in the cold cruel world and in here in the warmth of our Gantthead home, have a technical background before moving into PM roles. I'm wondering if I'm one of the ONLY PMs who is always working on IT-related projects (eg app installs, infrastructure, upgrades, etc) that doesn't have a tech background and what do you do to come up to speed? I mean, frankly, what courses, certs, etc would be the best bargain for gaining general IT knowledge but not so in-depth that I have to learn how to code or do other hard core tech functions??
As always, your comments are welcomed and appreciated.

You might consider pursuing an MBA in IT/CIS, which will definitely cover high-level concepts without too much detail. Baker College has an online program that you might want to check out (www.baker.edu).

I'm sure you can find all kinds of general IT courses, but it's difficult to know how much you will get out of them.

I only work on IT projects. I do it well and its challenging.
Why only be technical? Technical jobs are going off-shore.
