Hello,

I am joining the work force after a 7 years break. I have an IT background but since I am out of the technical field for so long, joining the PM stream seems a good option. I have PMP certification.

Any pointers ? Any guidelines ? Any Help ?

I would really appreciate it!

I have already started communicating with my local chapter and I will join in their next mentoring session but I don't see much junior or entry level PM jobs. How do I enter this field

A PMP with little experience should still get you into a project associate role. Different countries use different terminology, but it's basically an assistant to the PM, or in the PMO office. If you have little or no experience in PM, just find a spot on any project, paid or unpaid, to get the experience. Voluntary work always looks good on any resume anyway.

Think about business analysis. If you like to work on tecnical field take a look to all related to SCRUM which is software related in the Agile field. While it depends on the market the Scrum certification is most demmanded than PMP certification. Are not the same but is a reality on most of the markets.

A PMP and a technical background should make you attractive to many recruiters. Most technical companies want Project Managers who aren't just on the business side, so they can communicate effectively with technical workers.

I am thinking similarly to Sergio. Go for an IT Business Analyst position. That can be a good lead-in for Project Management, and in many organizations, there is overlap b/t the two.

Good Luck!

Thank you for all your replies. I am going to be targeting PM Coordinator or Associate role as well as IT Business Analyst. Let see what happens.
