I'm curious as to the least expensive path for receiving the Scrum Master certification. I see in-class courses that go for thousands of dollars, well I'm not growing money and would appreciate a less expensive path is possible.

Any suggestions fo obtaining the Scrum Master cert?
Thank you!

I think the best way is self study seeing that you are already a PMP, its way easier than you think. Online there are a lot of free lessons, webinars and youtube videos that will help you prepare.

Do you take the exam in a room like with Prometrics? Is there an online exam available? Which firm do you recommend I go through to become a scrum master?
Thanks!

Sometimes the local chapters also offered this certification would like to recommend you to contact your local chapter.

In my opinion, it's not really accepted. Scrum.org's fee is 150$. The better choice ;)

The most well known Scrum Master certification is CSM (Certified Scrum Master) by Scrum Alliance. As far as I know you need to attend a class to get eligibility the do the exam. Then you do the exam online. The classes are usually fairly expensive (around US$ 1500 - US$ 2000 in northern Europe).

The second well known Scrum Master certification is PSM (Professional Scrum Master) by Scrum.org. Here you can do self study and then just pay to do the exam online. This keeps the cost down. The exam cost for PSM I is US$ 150 per attempt.

Other providers of Scrum certification are largely unknown. There is not much use having a certification that is not well known and recognised.

I got my Scrum Master Certification through Vmedu.com. It is the SMC as opposed to the CSM and it is all online for a fairly good price of $300.
