Any recommendations regarding the conception of pilot projects?

Can somebody help me with recommendations (books or websites) with examples of models used for pilot projects where you have different stages. Like for example the development, final rehearsal and launch? I'm searching for generic approaches, concepts or models but can't find any.

Perhaps I did not understand your question. Let me say we do lot of pilot projects in the organization where I am working today. Pilot objectives is the driver. We have a list of criteria to determine the pilot objectives and we adjust scope, time, cost to that. For example, sometimes cost does not matter depending on the pilot objective which could be taking understanding of risk or benefits regarding a specific unknown market.

thank you for your answer. I'm basically looking for generic informations, the theory behind it so to speak. A model that helps you decide the timeline for your project. I'm also looking for examples of roadmaps and in general examples of pilot projects. If you could help me with that I would appreciate it a ton!

I really do not know about theory behind because I always make this type of things like any other project except because the pilot objectives driving all other decisions as I commented.
