Looking for a “Program” Level Milestone Chart that is automated and will:

• Provide “swim lanes” for high level milestones for each project in the program.
• Provide connections (lines / arrows) between milestones in different swim lanes to depict a dependency.
• Is automated.

Although I agree with those of you who have replied suggesting MS Project does what Lorrie is looking for, I would like to add that not all audiences, especially senior executive (in my organization anyway) can interpret what the tool produces, and need something visually appealing and quick to understand at a glance.

Lorrie, you are probably far more advanced at using MS Office tools than me, but I do have some examples I've used in the past to demonstrate to executive how projects link using swim lanes. If there is a way for us to connect, I'm happy to chat.

Lorrie -

Based on the above, I believe standard MS Project functionality using the Gantt chart & timeline view would likely meet your needs.

You could track all projects within one master schedule, and filter by milestones if the underlying detailed tasks weren't required. You could flag specific key milestones to show up in the timeline view.

I agree. MS project would do the job as needed.

If you need to spruce up the output from MS Project, you can always check out Visio. It can do some great graphics using the Project data.

Yep I agree Visio is a great tool for this.
