WPD is input and WPI is output of all processes under Monitoring and Controlling process group except Monitor & Control PW and Perform Integrated Change Control process.

I find the analogy of food works well with WPD, WPI and WPRs when teaching PMP Prep Classes.

Think of WPDs like raw eggs. Not too tasty and you could get sick eating them.

WPIs are like boiled eggs. We've done some analysis and processing on them and come up with something that is worth sharing but is still not sophisticated enough to feed to senior management.

WPRs are like a Cobb Salad in which you've chopped up the boiled eggs. Now you have a dish truly worth offering to your senior management.

A more boring example would be:

WPD: We've spent $10,000 up till now.
WPI: We should have spent $5,000 to achieve the same value, so we have a cost variance of -$5,000.
WPR: A project status report you send to your leadership team which includes the cost variance information above.

Thank you Kiron for your explanation which is exactly Talley with the PMBOK guide same sequencing first data is raw then info then you present the report but I am still wondering about the egg should I consider it an output of a hen or collect from store process or it is input for boiling water

Data is usually the input to a process that will output information. In other words, information is obtained by giving meaning to the data.

Thank you Stéphane you are right that data is facts or figures when processed make useful information so WPR could be both either output or input, but if data is input to produce meaningful info then data must be collected as an output from certain process

Riyadh, WPD is output of Direct and Manage PW and WPI is input to M & C PW process. If you take a look to PMBOK 5th edition, you could see it-I believe it helps.
