Staffing Agencies and Project Management

How many of you PM and PMO Leaders use Staffing Agencies for staff augmentation? I know when I ran my PMOs I had my favorite Staffing firm on speed dial to get a local PM quick. Now, however, I wonder why we are relying on staffing agencies. Why aren't we utilizing Project Management firms which only specialize in Project Management? I wouldn't go to a Staffing Agency to get a lawyer, tax accountant, construction firm or just about any other Specialist. Who agrees we need to move away from Staffing firms to get Project Managers???

Consulting firms can hire out their PM's but then you would be paying a lot more than hiring them from staffing agencies etc.

Agree the cost is greater, but isn’t that because you’re getting a better PM? I would have to go through 50 candidates from a Staffing firm to find 1 ok PM. You either pay more up front for better talent or pay more when your projects are late, over budget etc with a weak PM.
