Who is responsible for maintaining the integrity of questions within the PM Challenge? It seems there are questions that are outright wrong or inconsistent with the terminology in the PMBOk Guide.

For example, a question in the PM challenge asks:

The ___ provides detailed descriptions of the components of the WBS, including the work packages and control accounts.
a. product backlog
b. user stories
c. work package dictionary
d. none of the above

Actual answer which is not listed is the WBS Dictionary. If this leads you to believe the correct answer is ‘none of the above’ that would have been my choice as well. The PM challenge says the correct answer is ‘work package dictionary’. I do not see how ‘work package dictionary’ is the correct choice as there is no reference for this term anywhere in the PMBOK Guide. How many other questions are there like this in the PM Challenge? Who is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our PM Challenge database?

You are correct that "WBS Dictionary" is not listed as an answer choice. You are wrong saying that the correct answer is not listed. Think about what you said. You said the "actual answer which is not listed" right? That is your hint. So what do you think is the correct choice, and what does PM Challenge say is the correct answer? ;-)

So you’re suggesting that ‘work package dictionary’ is a synonym and commonly used equivalent of ‘WBS Dictionary’? Seeking to understand as there’s no reference anywhere in the PMBOK.

Perhaps a synonym. Naturally "WBS Dictionary" would be nicer since it matches what the PMBOK references.

Generally, you can deduce the correct answer by eliminating the wrong answers. Sometimes the right answer is the one that is not there.

If you’re suggesting that ‘none of the above’ would be correct, that’s not the correct answer according to the PM Challenge.

I see. I misunderstood and was also a bit confused : )

The questions should be held to a higher standard regardless of their intent; exam prep or fun.

Alexander -

I'd agree with you regarding the low quality of some of the PM Challenge questions - I've noticed a few which had clearly incorrect answers too. This is a freely available resource so I guess we chalk it up to "you get what you pay for"!

Kiron,
I understand and that makes sense. Should we as a community ask for better and hold ourselves to a higher standard (rhetorical question)?

I think what we could do is ask members to note down the specific questions which they believe are incorrect in a separate thread and once there is some critical mass of incorrect questions (5-10?) to pass those along to the appropriate contact person...

PM challenge questions are some basic concepts to keep your knowledge afresh. I also found some questions to be in contradiction to PMBOK and few with grave grammatical mistakes which changes the whole meaning of question and lead you to pick wrong answer. I took a screenshot of all such questions and sent it to "support" and they were glad to make the necessary corrections.

Great idea, Najam! I guess we could all take some responsibility here, if you notice an incorrect response, sending it to Support, as Najam suggests would be a win-win solution for all :)
