I used e4IS as a Marketing Director at a consulting firm. I used e4IS as a project portfolio management tool, and my team members and I both also used it as a project management tool. Many times our projects included team members from other areas of the company and e4IS was a great tool in that regard - we could add or take away team members at the project level and assign whatever level access rights were appropriate. We also used this as a meeting management tool. This ensured that all of our meeting knowledge - minutes, tasks, next steps - were captured in one place. As a manager of a department that always had numerous projects underway, the executive dashboard feature and the escalation feature were very valuable to me. They ensured that I knew about issues before they became big, public issues. I am not sure how you are looking to use this tool, but I would recommend it if you are looking for something to manage both a portfolio of projects as well as a day-to-day project management and execution tool. I've been using e4IS for ~2 years and find it very useful. It's an ASP based tool allowing simple collaboration from all team members. It also allows the PM to "package" views for audiences ranging from exec steering teams to staff level team members. Project roll up into programs is also available. The elements include project charter, milestones, plans, teams, assignments, meetings (including agendas & minutes), documentation, etc.
After initial training, e4IS is more intuitive than other project tools. Managing complex timelines & dependencies is a little awkward, but worth it because of the ease of use. For large complex projects, you can upload plans from MS Project.

I have also used e4is for several years. It is a great tool for meeting documentation, tracking issues, assigning tasks/next steps and employee time tracking. For large/complex projects I would recommend managing milestones and associated tasks in MSProject but with e4is you can still upload the MS project plan to the system so everyone on the project team can see it. We have been utilizing e4is since April and we started with 20 licenses. By June 2006 we should over 100 users. The reason we have choosen this program was that it is created by Project managers and we can make sure the Project Managment methodology is followed from creating scope to closing the project. We researched 90 different systems and narrowed it to 5. e4is came out on top. Saving Changes...
I used E4is at a large urban hospital to manage the entire IT portfolio. It is a great product. The ease of use is great for non-PM team members. PM's have all the data they need as well. Also this product is very cost effective and has very responsive customer support at their 800 number. Try getting that from Microsoft. Saving Changes...
As far as how it compares to eProject, I don't have a lot of feedback as I never used eProject nor spent a lot of time researching it. However, I do know that one of the things that e4IS has that eProject does not is meeting management functionality. Saving Changes...
At Seattle Children's Hospital, the Marketing and Communications team is using eProject to manage their proejcts. Their requirements were for an easy to use tool to track all aspects of their projects including portfolio management, project scope, task/resource management, document mangement with versioning, issues management, and collaboration. The eProject solution requires very little training and provides a high return on their investment. They are able to collaborate from anywhere on their projects. They can use the solution real-time during meeting and all phases of the project. We created project templates containing tasks, document templates, and other project collateral and linked tasks to documents. Now, creating a new project takes minutes instead of hours providing a high return on their investment. The solution provides efficiency without a big investment of time. Saving Changes...
I have been using e4is for about 4 years in Europe (where it is also know as Plan-IT), and can strongly recommend it as a project extecution management tool. Not only does my company use e4is internally to manage all its own projects (internal development, R&D, strategic planning, client facing projects, etc.), but we also implement e4is for our customers as part of a management consultancy service we offer. What we like about e4is is the diversity of situtaions to which it can be applied; simple of complex, small or large. Just recently we worked with a customer building a massive construction facility in West Africa, and were able to implment a very strategic risk management programme. In other situations we have been able to provide proactive program management for a number of complex projects using e4is' shared milestone features. Internally, my secretary uses e4is to keep track of maintenance contract renewals. Just a few examples of the diversity of use; simple or complex. As John Fillicetti works for eProject. I'd say his comments are a bit biased. Saving Changes...
