What do you think ? How much communication methods are important for a successful Project and should we not upgrade ourselves and use Social media Platforms also as a method to communicate better with team as well as stakeholders both to get more clarity on Project updates and key concern areas. I believe that Social Media can be used to keep better engagement and interaction within team .

Social media might have a place in your communication plan. Don't forget that the choice of communication type should not be based on only the stakeholder's preference. The content of the communication should aslo influence the communication type used.

For example, I have a rule of thumb that says anything with an emotional content or connection needs to be done face to face or over the phone. Never by email.

Taking the line of @Stéphane something people missing when using social media is when they use it they belongs to "The Matrix". I mean, how many of us when decide that email is a valid communication mean for our project take into account if people have been trained in the use of email? The same with any other Social Media. I am not saying people must not use it into projects. In fact, I am leading a program about that in the company where I am actually working. Perhaps because I have to use things like emails when all started to be used as a mean of communication I learn about the impact to not train people first. All these stuff multiplies the impacts when you work with highly distributed teams belonging to more than 65 countries around the world with people that belongs to different cultures. My day to day challenge, in fact.

True that the ideal is face to face for emotional topics, but if a project has remote teams it makes it hard and in some cases impossible.

It's still better to do a Skype or phone call than an email, Sante.

Yes Skype or similar is the way to go in those situations.
