Thank you everyone for your prompt response to my plight and heartfelt words of encouragement. As was suggested by Nenad the following is more details surrounding my situation as it relates to studying;

1. Villanova University - PMP exam prep materials (as I had completed PMP certification studies Oct 2014)

2. leading up to my first exam attempt my exam practice studies were intermittent (due to life urgency's), however I used PMtraining exam simulator (by Christopher Scordo) for approximately 2 months prior. Having gone through about 700 questions of the more than 1,000 plus questions I was scoring in the high 80-90% range.

3. on the second attempt I strictly used RMC for one month leading up to the exam on 11/16/17. With that resource I didn't have enough time to thoroughly follow the recommended study practice, which for example would be to do the end-of-chapter questionnaires as suggested when reading through the second time. For an average of 4-6 hours a day 7 days a week I would READ-REFERENCE-COMPREHEND- DID THE EXCERCISES per management area yet got as far as 3/4 of the book, so 3 days prior to the exam I skimmed through Time, Cost, HR,Quality, Scope, Risk and Communication Management areas briefly focusing on items such as key concepts, formulas, critical path and Procurement contract types.

4. I believe I may be spending to much time trying to understand the ITTO's as presented by RMC. For in her book it is often mentioned to not proceed until one has a good grasp of a particular concept, so I will stop and for example read as I did the entire chapter on Risk Management which consisted of 38 pages (small font) not including thoroughly completing each exercise, and reverting to the PMBOK as well. That effort easy took 4-5 hours.

4. I believe during my this very first read through I am spending to much time trying to understand the ITTO's as presented by RMC. For instance, I find that when the exercise ask to list the inputs for Estimating Cost I may be only able to list 2-3 items remembered from the previous pages that I read. Then the guide reads to spend sometime thinking about any inputs you forgot, to make sure you really understand the inputs for the exam, so I will do that which could take about about 15 min. average per topic.

5. I believe what is lacking in my study approach is over studying and lack of retention of the concepts.

6. this go around of studying I am dead set on using the test results from my exam to completely identify the areas where I need improvement and address the gaps. Still I need to connect the dots of what I am learning to the way most of the exam questions are phrased (i.e., "in this scenario what do you do").

7. more to come

After I filter through your suggestions I will circle back. -Marvin

Best thing is to check with your local chapter - I am positive that you will find volunteer who would be glad to mentor you. In your situation, my advise is to have in-person mentoring. Best of Luck !

Hi Marvin,

I think as Nenad Pesic, first analyze each exam preparation you had.
Managed to get 80% in simulations?
For how long have you been studying/preparing the exam?
Do you study in English?
What material have you used: Rita, PMBOK, websites, forums...

I will recommend 2 things you have just here, which I used and enjoyed during my PMP exam preparation: 1) PMchallenge; 2) PMwars

You can write me if I can give you any further help: [email protected]
Update: I expect to discuss a study plan today with Tonja Morgan. Also, I have reached out to my chapter for assistance. Thank you Jorge.-Marvin

Hi Marvin
First of all you have to analyze your gaps in your knowledge areas and identify where you lack, then try to focus on these areas. Try to go through Rita simulators on PMP exam, and try to get master and score more than 90% before again sitting on exam. My services are available whatever i can guide u.
Thank you

Hi, In my opinion, the first ting you need to do more practise to improve your remember about knowledge. the second thing you should check the wrong item, analysis them until you understand. the third thing you should do some prepare on exam. you should get your confidence, you had lost two times. so don't fear it. during the exam, you should control the time of exam.ensure every item less two minuter.
hope you pass exam this time.
