Hi,

I am planning to get certified in 1-2 years. Not sure which org. maybe PMI, or Australian equivalent.

Since these orgs require an applicant to have industry PM experience, I want to ask at this stage, what documents should I be collecting to prepare for my application?

I might need to actively fill the gaps in my current experience. Do I need employment certification that I did Risk Management, Scope Management, etc.?

NYPC Users Group is repeating their popular, low-cost Project Management for IT Professionals class

The NYPC Users Group, in New York City, is the largest computer user group in NYC, and one of the oldest and largest computer user groups in America.
We are a 501(C)3 non-profit corporation, run by volunteers since 1981.

We are happy to announce that, due to popular demand, we are repeating our popular, one-day intro to PMBOK and PM concepts for new IT managers who would like a brief introduction to the concepts. I planned it as a good introduction to PMBOK concepts for those who are contemplating pursuing the PMP or CAPM certs.

It's not a cert prep course, but it could satisfy 7 hours of the 35 hours of PM training required for the exam. The course is aligned with the PMBOK 3rd Edition.

There have been some wrong information posted on this thread about experience required to register for the PMP exam. Please refer to PMI site, which clearly stated that the experience listed must be "in a position of responsibility leading and directing specific tasks and X months of project management experience". (hours and months required vary based on previous education level)

Indeed, there were some mishaps with the new exam, and there is a perception that they made it too difficult and then lowered the bar too much (so now it’s too easy), but in the same time PMI almost doubled the number of submissions that are audited. Failing the audit has serious consequences, so I do not think it’s advisable to “stretch out” the truth in your application.

The most accurate info can be found in the PMI certification brochure at http://pmi.org/prod/groups/public/document...PMPHandbook.pdf

I will never suggest anyone to buy RMC "PM FASTrack Exam Simulation Software". I used it once, but I couldn't register next day. I was taking exam in two days. Why would I buy an expensive software if I couldn't even use it?! I called their support line, there was nobody answer.

The RMC "PM FASTrack Exam Simulation Software" worked perfectly for me. I used it to pass on my first try; I HIGHLY recommend it. Don't discount it because of technical problems.

I am planning to take the PMP exam in a couple of months from now. I have finished the mandatory training to obtain 35 PDU's. While filing the first project I stopped at the point where I was asked to summarize project...my question is...
1.0 Do I have to summarize deliverables in this section??? Does it have to include a description of the project and / or project objectives as well??? Can I get a few exmaples of how this section is written???
2.0 Should the information I provide in this section match with the information I have provided earlier for recording the hours spent against specified tasks...verification form part II?

I will appreciate if someone can help me on this...

Anon,

You just need to list the deliverables that you produced on the projects within each process area.

For example:
Initiating - Recognizing a project or phase should begin and committing to do so.
Statement of work, Preliminary project scope statement, Project management plan (software development plan).
