Can anyone suggest some good tips to manage an offshore project developement. In most cases project will be executed half at client site and the rest at an Offshore developement centre. The extremes of SDLC happns at Client site and the middle at the developement centre.
As a Project manager what all things we can demand from the top management? Saving Changes...
Firstly, you need to educate management with scope of the project and show them how important and critical for org growth, which ultimately enable you to get a buy-in from them. Secondly, get good resource offshore and finally define and adopt amicable process. Saving Changes...
I dont know if demand would be right, but I'd rather set expectations. For instance, if its the first time the organization is doing offshore, then set expectations of Sr Mgt that the risks are higher and hence you will need their weight, if necessary to get things in line.
Set the expectation that any offshoring creates some sort of disruption in the existing team, expect the stateside team to view the offshore team and their work products in a not too positive light. This will mean keeping a control on rumors, ensuring Sr. Mgt does not get biased by singular views.
Set expectations on timelines, integration issues will crop up and could hamper the ontime release. Ask for a travel budget (depends on how large the project is, or how critical it is for the success of offshoring). Either send one of your strong team members or invite an offshore team leader to work together and establish the team rapport.
