What software packages would you recommend for a Small Business? Seeking alternatives to Microsoft project. Mercury is too much. Enact, eProject and Intuit seem to have reasonable solutions. What else is out there that you like? What features appeal to you?

Dear Dawn,

Regarding what software packages would you recommend for a Small Business... There are so many excellent offerings out there, especially for small business. It is a real buyers market. As you indicated, Enact, eProject, and Intuit are very fine project management products for small businesses, and large businesses too. And, Salesforce.com has done very well with its Project and Issue Management offering. For small businesses already doing business with Salesforce.com on the CRM front, this might be an alternative well worth pursuing. I suspect that some of the key drivers for small businesses would be whether not they prefer applications on their own IT infrastructure or hosted by the vendor, the degree to which collaboration features are required and helpful verses redundant and unwanted, and of course the specific features for managing projects, resources, issues, and risks. Just to clarify, you mentioned that you were seeking alternatives to Microsoft Project. Was that Project Professional or Project Server? As an alternative to Project Professional, there are those that would suggest that Microsoft Project Server is a good small business project and resource management offering.
