Seasoned PM/BA/consultant recently hired for a integration project with a Fortune 500 company. Only to find a great PM already in place for project, with resources across sales, marketing, finance, IT, infrastructure accomplishing tasks to meet aggressively timeline. Not being engaged but religated to project adminstration work - which I'm not above doing, I'm a roll up your sleeves person.
Haven't been in this situation before - how do a proceed appropriately?

Hi,

I would discuss this with the assignor (orderer or the assignment) and tell him that he pays more that he get for you.

Or...accept the situation and that you have an assignment. Enjoy and do the best of the situation. Give it some time and they will soon notice that you are over-qualified for your assignment.

Good Luck!

You need to ask yourself if this position is what inspires you to get up and go to work every morning. If having less responsibility is fine with you, then go with it. If not, ask for a bigger role and move on if the employer does not try to help you find a better fit.

You should have checked before taking up this assignment, anyway as minimal ethics as ture professional you should atleast spend 3 to 6 months and then look out for change in the assignment within Org or outside.

I did ask ... the assignment was sold as being a PM and all associated with that type of assignment. Thanks for your insight.

This sometimes happens despite your best effort, I suggest to start looking for another asignment better suited to your career goals and skill set.
