Agreed. Having the designation behind your name...Example: Cory Maddox, PMP on my correspondence with customers, I find, invites instant credibility and may get your foot in the door...but it's your actions and building a track record of success when applying those hard learned skills that garner attention.
It's a mixture of the PMP certification, experience and domain knowledge that will get more job opportunities.

From my point view it gives u preference on others on the same category if somebody is not having that. Experience and domain knowledge will provide u more opportunity for job.

The eligibility criteria of PMP with 4,500 hours leading and directing projects and 35 hours of project management education indicates that you have enough experience which could help in getting short listed for the interviews. As mentioned by Sante, other factors like domain knowledge and experience does matter.

There are lots of unemployed PMP certificate holders. It is just a requirements for some jobs and a plus qualification for others. By this, you only have more job opportunities and a little bit more chance on those which considered PMP as a plus.

It is a mixture of both experience and certficiations but no, you wom’t be flooded with jobs. However, if any opportunity comes accross, the PMP might put you on the top of the list.
Is anyone really ever flooded with job opportunities? You would have to either be at the top of your field, a new adopter (ie. the early agile experts) or have massive experience in that project's domain.
