Hi, I am looking for some suggestions from anyone who might have some ideas on how to switch career fields into a IT project management position. I have been a Web Developer for about 2 years before getting laid off a month after 9/11. Since then to make ends meet I have gotten stuck in a rut of Management at a Walmart.
I have my MBA, and a CIS degree. For anyone intrested to see my resume it is here Basically I am looking to hear how others transitioned into Project Management, and what steps I should be taking. Should I go get my PMP certification right away? Is there a stepping stone I should look for before a Project Managment Position. Thanks Ken Saving Changes...
I'm also seeking a PM career and this thread has been a valuable read. I am very interested in PM education and I have a couple of question to that end:
Which is the better choice;
1. Technical School or MBA program?
2. If MBA is the better choice, are on-line schools such as Strayer University and University of Phoenix credible?
3. Once a diploma is achieved, do you have the req's to sit for the PMP?
4. I am employed full time as an IP Communications sales professional with five years of experience in my current position. I will be seeking a PM position within the IP Communications field. Should I leave my current job for an analyst or project specialist position while completing course work or will sales experience combined with a PM diploma be a strong resume?
