Agile is a project management methodology that uses short development cycles called "sprints" to focus on continuous improvement when developing a product or service.

Agile is not a methodology. Agile is totally independent of a methodology. Agile is not an approach. You have approaches based on Agile. What the PMI is trying to say is that when you use some approach based on Agile then you have to take into account incremental delivery. In fact, you can read it into the new PMBOK where the PMI took an "elegant" and salomonic decision in defining the life cycle including a embeded phase named "development" and a new life cycle model named "agile" based on iterative-incremental life cycle process.

I would like to add "retrospective meetings" which takes place after completing each Sprint. This allows the lessons learned implemented in the upcoming Sprints. This allows better quality on forthcoming sprints. This is one good advantage in Agile.
AGILE methodology is a practice that promotes continuous iteration of development and testing throughout the software development lifecycle of the project. Both development and testing activities are concurrent.

Agile is a framework of values and principles which can be applied to project or non-project work. It encourages efficiency, customer-focus, team empowerment, quality and value delivery.
Agile methodologies such as Scrum codify these values and principles into roles, practices, tools & techniques. These methodologies are usually aimed at specific types of projects.

Amir, as Kiron pointed, agility in a project is mainly a mindset and principles to get work done in a project very much triggered by different principles coming from lean manufacturing. JAJAJAJJA, Thank you very much my friends. Here I am. First of all, I always comment about Agile because I firmly believe that the general confusion outside there jeopardizes the work for all of us and mainly the intentions of people that are trying to find a job. All I will write as follows can be checked and my only objective is that: search for the basement and the real information. Here I comes. By definition, the definition created in 1990 inside the USA DoD NSF/Agility Forum and then taking by creators of methods for software development based on Agile (I worked with some of them like Arie Van Bennekum) Agile is "a way of behave and thinking with focus on client and quality". When you use behave Agile then you gain into agility which is "the ability to respond to changes and to create changes". That is the reason because Agile is not the same of Lean, while Agile was born trying as an innovation on Lean.

Sergio, thank you for the correction, it is greatly appreciated. My apologies for posting incorrect information.
My Agile course focused on it being a "methodology" rather than a behavior or way of thinking. What I learned in the course made Agile seem rather cumbersome and not agile at all. Thank you for providing me with this information, I am now beginning to understand what Agile really is. :-)
