A decision has to be communicated to others, explained well to persuade team members to agree and carried through to successful completion. Simply because part of a project fails doesn't mean that a bad decision was made. I think there is more to a decision than deciding which option to choose.
Which is most difficult for you?Does it vary from decision to decision? Saving Changes...

The important thing is sharing .. the decision maker should share the decision making with the team if this is applicable. It depends from a decision to another. It is possible to share a decision making when it is to decide if fast track an activity or to apply a new welding methodology but if it comes to replace a team member it might not be wise to share the decision with all or with at least some of the team. What I want to say is, the more you involve others concerned in the decision and the more you subject the decision draft to expert opinion the more you minimize the risk of failure.
Farid, I agree that the decision needs to be shared, but even if you make the right decision, the difference is how well your team executes the decision. I think the decision maker needs to check in and ensure that the decision is being carried out. Saving Changes...

As per my experience , Good decision should be taken at the right time and at the right place and also correct person should be involved in decision making. otherwise Good decision would be the night mare.
Thank you Girish, for your feedback on this. Saving Changes...

Yes , sometimes good decisions can have bad results. But i would like to call it a right decision or wrong decision as good or bad or too subjective terms and can be deciphered as per convenience of people involved . A decision must be taken when it is required basis the best information and data available . The impact and results of your decision might not be as per expectation as there might be several external factors also impacting the outcome of your decision. So when your decision dont deliver the expected results , dont call it bad but probably correct the expectations seeing the constraints and external factors.
Irfat, I agree on this. I think we have to look back and clarify why the decision was successful or failure. Was it because we made the right decision or made the decision at the right time? Saving Changes...

While it is easy to think of decisions as a fixed point in time, we have to understand that decisions can, and should, evolve over time as more information and understanding is revealed. As a result, a decision's value can change greatly over it's lifetime.
Thanks for your insight on this, Stephane. Yes, decisions can evolve over time. I think the project team should think about how collectively they can capture the knowledge that they missed and apply to the next decisions they have to make. Saving Changes...
The decision might have been the « good » one considering available informations.
Then new informations surface that change the decision value!

I agree with you Stephane, however, it is the consequences, the impact or the results from such decision that evolve over time.

I will also change my decisions, Farid.
Sometimes an early decision must be made, based on what we know at the time. As more information is revealed, we may need/want to change our decision.

You came to the crucial point Anish. A point that makes failure is when a good decision is made but a bad implantation has followed. We cannot escape from the fact that team work is required but team work requires good team players. Good Project is similar to a Good Game. Saving Changes...

I will not limit it to self challenge, Anish.. If I am a Project Manager or a team member at work I will consider decision making as part of the task on due diligence .. I am responsible towards other parties and stakeholders so I should be to the level of that responsibility. Saving Changes...

Decision is part of the performance context together with the other aspects like implementation and support. Without decision no work can be done and consequently no end product will appear or at least the end product will not be to the good expectations. If we imagine the decision is the piles of a building other aspects including the implementation (planning, execution etc) and the end product are the rest of the structure. Now if the piles are bad then the structure is bad. Saving Changes...
