Is there any benefit to renewing PMP early?

I have completed all of my PDU's but I still have a year before my renewal date. I am getting emails telling me to renew now, but it seems to me that it will just start the clock early. Is there some benefit that I am not aware of?

The other benefit besides money and getting it out of the way is if for some reason PMI makes a change in the PDU category or add another category. Currently you need to split them into Leadership, Tools and Strategy. My recommendation, take care of it when you can especially when your company is paying for it. Congratulations for achieving 60 PDUs within 6 months. Very Impressive!!

"Why put off tomorrow what you can do today?" I guess the time saved by doing it early can be used for another certification.

I guess the only benefits of renewing early is that you can get it out of the way and can plan your finances.

Thanks
That is the only benefit, you are right so if that is if no big concern to you then it shouldn't matter.

I have not see benefits from an early renewal.
It is an expense you put behind, or you keep for your investment.
Choice is yours.
For PDUs to transfert to the next cycle they need to be in the last year of the cycle in both case.

The only benefit I could think is peace of mind that you don't have to worry about it for another 2-3 years

It could be closer to 5-6 years before you have to renew, if you got all your PDUs in the first year of your cycle then the last year of the following cycle.

No 'benefit' aside from renewing early :)

To note, completing your cycle and renewing your credential and renewing your PMI membership are not the same thing. If you are a year out, I'd be surprised if they would be sending you reminder emails already. Just throwing that out there...

Anyway, as you can see, most of us cycle ahead of the 3-year span. None of my PDU's will begin to count toward my next cycle until 2019. I earned in Jan 2016 and cycled the same year.

This is the email I received a few days ago. I had completed my PDU's back in mid-October. I get these email every so often for both the PMP and ACP.

"Dear Dinah,

Again, congratulations! You’ve earned the PDUs required to maintain your status as a PMI-ACP. You only need to finish one more critical step: submit the renewal fee. This step is needed before 28 Sep 2020 to stay certified. "

No benefit to you - no difference to your credential. PMI sends this email to get you to commit and pay. For me, money management says delay payment until you cannot delay any more.

If you are the type that you pay your credit cards or rent or mortgage early then pay PMI early :)

Dinah,

So you can receive those email for the next three years. or for the immediate payment of the fee not get the email.

The benefit of renewing now is no email!!!
:-)
