Automation, AI, Machine Learning...these terms are doing the rounds these days.
Is Automation going to affect Project Management and project managers in general

It is recommended Project managers need to re-skill/up-skill with the tools and technologies that are relevant to modern day project management.

Any suggestion which tools and technologies a budding Project manager should get acquainted with?

Any specific certification would help?

Improvising and upgrading on the skills will always help whether you are project manager or not. But from project management perspective I think technologies should not matter, however these help to a larger extent specifically in better predictability. I'm into reporting and analytics projects and the word I hear quite often is prescriptive analytics. So, I think it will not be too far when project management uses these technologies.

PM will evolve with whatever technology and tools are present on the day. It will be driven by business needs moreso than the profession.

Project management is first about to deal with people, expectations, conflicts etc etc....No automation ever can really "manage this" in my opinion.

Automation, Machine learning, AI and others are surrounded as from 1980 up to date including all related to project management tools. Some people are not aware on that. What a project manager has to take into account is about to read and understanding new technologies just in case you are involved into initiatives that use them. But is nothing new below the sun. Is the same as always.

Of course, project management is primarily a work with people. But do not forget that it is also the management of a huge amount of resources, task allocation, time estimation, load and risk management, planning and much more.

Technology, no matter how modern they were, can not completely replace a person. But they can simplify many tasks of managers, reduce the probability of errors, allows you to take into account many factors in decision-making. Our team is just working on a project management tool with trainable AI based on neural networks. But there are many other studies and directions in this area.

If you can't get actual experience leading an AI or machine learning-focused project, I'd suggest taking one of the many online courses to at least learn more about the domain. Unless you want to re-invent yourself as an AI developer, I don't believe there's a lot of benefit in getting any type of developer-oriented course or credential.

from my point of view project management will tranform with whatever new technology or machines or automation will evolve.

I suspect project management tools are going to lag behind consumer products for AI and other emerging technologies.

Project Managers will need to adapt to use new technology and be able to deliver projects based on new technology.

Good question.
You may want to read the September 2017 Harvard Business Review article about Jeff Immelt and the General Electric Company Agile Cultural Transformation effort.
Believe the article indicates that although the CEO of one of the largest companies in the world attempted to make the General Electric Company culture more Agile and Open, that performance was not necessarily rewarded by Wall Street Analysts. Meaning, agility is very subjective, and stick to projects that move the income statement and balance sheet. Jeff Immelt is a Harvard MBA, and if anyone could have made that transformation effort a success it would have been him. From my point of view, electronic applications are the beating pulse of future organizational success. Which basically means, machine learning is on the list of tools for 21st Century Organizational Transformation.
