I have been assigned to document the current QA process for our company and recommend best practice and see where the gaps are. The scope is primarily on extracts of Health Care data from the data warehouse. I am looking for any 'best practice' suggestions on testing extracts. Thanks, Karen

Finding the gaps requires a context. What value does management perceive is not being delivered? Why do they feel the assessment is needed? Without a clear and measurable objective a gap analysis is worth very little, like shooting at an invisible target.

To add to what Michael had said, please do not visualize the gap analysis as running through a checklist to see what is followed or not followed. The question should be addressed at a higher plane and then detailed approach should be drawn to identify the approach.

Does anyone have examples of good 'portfolio management reports' that can be provided to Sr. executive management not interested in minute details of the project, but want to know higher overview of projects?

from an IT standpoint, meeting SLA's over a period by the portfolio- variances if any with relevant metrics suiting your company direction would be a must. Fixed price project performance need to be tracked differently from ongoing projects in the portfolio. Significant milestones achieved against plan can be another one. Hope it makes sense!
