I think defining exit criteria at the beginning of milestones improves the team's ability to meet the target dates. Also, exit criteria should map back to the vision and goals. The other way is not to have an exit criteria, where you will depend on opinion and team members urge to figure out when you're done. My understanding is that without exit criteria the team must depend on their subjective opinions which is just waste of time.

What is your opinion? If you have an exit criteria, what do you include in your criteria?

I think what matters more about exit criteria is that they have to be done early on the project, keep it simple and use it to track progress and guide decisions. The sooner the project team knows about the criteria, the better the odds are that it will happen.

Anish,

In a construction contract, exist criteria is predefined before agreement are being signed. More than often, this criteria relates more to quality assurance & quality control for work end-result prior to work should proceed to next phase of work. For instance foundation work to sub-structure work.

Sergio is right that this process shall contribute important element in validate scope process. While I am also in the opinion that exist criteria apply also in Control Quality & Control Procurement process prior to qualify for interim acceptance deliverable or closed procurement.

Agreed with Vincent that exist criteria is not a matter of opinion but rigorously predefined while formulating contract for final acceptance of deliverable or work.

I am agreed with your point that without exist criteria, the work is a waste.

Agree with you PUI. In my personal experience put it into validate scope simplify things. If I put it in this context all the other is been covered. At least in my personal experience.

Thanks Saji for your response.

My understanding is that the goal isn't just to hit a target date, but to hit a target date with the project in a specific state. So, even if the criteria change down the road, the project team will be adjusting in the same directions.
