Hello,

Could somone point out for me some URLs or ebooks to find precisely answers for these questions:

1. Can you explain project life cycle ?
2. How many phases are there in software project ?
3. What are the metrics followed in project management?
4. How is normally a project management plan document organized ?
5. What are function points?

Hello. The questions you asked are subject to some interpretation. The answers to your questions depend a little on your organization and the project(s) in question. First, to gain some context, put all of the terms you listed below into Wikipedia. You'll find that "Project Life Cycle" directs you to "Software Development Process" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software_development_process). The article contains a high-level view of the development life cycle, but keep in mind that these aren't necessarily consistent across organizations. This answers your second question, in that the number of phases depends on the software development life cycle chosen and on how you choose to implement it. But the previous wikipedia article provides some guidance. As to metrics this topic hasn't been normalized across industry, but putting "Project Management Metrics" into a search engine will deliver a few perspectives. Lastly, I refer you once again to Wiki for "Function Points" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Function_point) which provides at least a good starting point.

Hope that helps get you started.

I recommend the book, "Effective Project Management". by Robert K. Wysocki, Robert Beck, Jr. and David B. Crane.
