Actuals and PERT

I am using Project Professional 2003. When entering actuals, I can enter an
actual finish date that may be later than the Expected date. The problem is,
when I update/add other tasks and PERT the plan, the PERT action changes all of
my actual finish dates to match the Expected Finish date for each individual
tasks. Can someone explain whey this occurs and/ or is there a workaround?
