One of my colleagues asked me whether he should opt for PMP Certification or an MBA in Project Management? Looking for suggestions from this community to guide him.

I see both the qualifications - MBA with specialisation in PM and PMP complimenting each other rather than compete with each other. Both qualifications will prove to be a formidable combination if one can comit his/her time & efforts required and can afford the costs of these qualifications especially the MBA.

But PMP generally will be pursued by someone only after certain years of industry experience in PM. Also, whereas MBA may have more theoretical approach, PMP certification on the other hand focuses on application of PM knowledge by using certain well defined processes, inputs, outputs, tools and techniques developed by PMI with the help of experienced project managers and subject matter experts. Therefore, for a Project Manager with or without MBA degree, PMP certification will always be very helpful and desired qualification to have.
