My name is Nikolay Spasibenko and at the moment I am a recent graduate with Master of Science degree with Distinction in Engineering Project Management. I also have a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computers, Networking and Communication Technology. At the moment I am searching for job in Project management environment, but I don’t get any interviews therefore I decided to ask for an advice: What is the suitable position which I can apply without possessing any practical experience in Project Management?
I keep applying for Project Assistant positions Project controls etc… but with no luck. I had my CV checked by different people working in careers offices, and they all say that my CV doesn’t need any improvements, however as I don’t get any interviews I believe I am doing something wrong.
I understand it is a fierce competition for jobs in project management but I can offer all the skills which are necessary for the positions I apply for. I have very good soft skills, I am good presenter and while doing any group tasks in university I have always been a leader. But even though I mention it all in my CV and covering letter it still doesn’t bring me anywhere. Would getting CAPM certification benefit me in any way? What else can I do to improve my chances of getting an interview?
Also being a Russian citizen I require a work permit to work anywhere else, which is fair, but there are always success stories about people who manage to get jobs in another countries.
At the moment I am thinking about doing a PhD, as if I cannot get a job I would study at least. Would it benefit me in any way?
Sorry about long post. It is just a frustration which builds up of being unemployed and doing random one off jobs to raise money.
Thank You
Nikolay Spasibenko
P.S. I attaching my CV maybe someone could point out some particular areas I should put stress on when applying for jobs in Project Management environment.

Hi,
The biggest issue I see is the lack of experience in project management activities. I see that you have background in software development. Perhaps it would be easier to first locate a job in software engineering, then work your way into a project lead role.
Hope this helps. Saving Changes...

One more thing...
I do NOT think a PhD will help you. CAPM or PMP will be helpful, as they will give you the opportunity to learn project management concepts. PMP will require a certain level of experience, however. Saving Changes...

If you want to be a PM, get into the PM mindset by doing project management inside/outside of your work environment. The more confident you are, the better you'll be suited to resolve complex PM issues at hand. Saving Changes...
