Does any of you are handling (or have handled) remote teams?
If so, what communication tools are you using? Are they being effective or you still face misunderstanding or response delays?
In my case we've already used Ryver, Trello, Skype and even Whatsapp, one complementing another.

In project management communication is important. For remote teams you would need a common document repository and a video conferencing tool such as Microsoft Teams that offers screen sharing. I also use VisualWBS.com which enables the team to review and improve the wbs during live calls. Is it developed by project managers for project professionnals. Also it can be use as a visual status report presenting key project performance metrics directly in work packages. Support export WBS to MSP and import ststus data from MSP. visit VisualWBS.com

I have worked remotely and managed remote teams. All we used was Skype4Business. IMO all it takes is effort and will to collaborate with teams given that technology is not really a limiting factor.

Sometimes I have exactly this feeling, Sromon. That the problem doesn't rely on the tools but maybe on a lack of compromising inside the team. I'm working on that in parallel.

I would echo what Sromon Das says. The tool you use isn't as important as the attitude and work ethic of the people using the tools. I've struggled to communicate with others in the past because of their lack of professionalism and inflexible approach to their work. That same struggle can happen with collocated teams as well as remote. That said--I like Slack and Zoom as a communication suite. Both are inexpensive and get the job done.

I would also consider collaborative information repositories such as wikis (e.g. Confluence) to work well with remote teams.
At the Agile Alliance 2016 conference, during the virtual collaboration breakout session we had a demo of presence technologies such as an iPad motorized stand which can be used to enable remote viewers to actually look at who is speaking and to make simple gestures like nodding...
Personally, I can't wait till AR becomes seamless enough that you can enter an empty meeting room, put on your AR glasses and "see" your team even if there are scattered across the globe!

We started using Ryver with that purpose, but now we are tending to use #slack instead, lets see how it works in our context. Have used Confluece in a previous job and it has its advantages too.
For sure AR is a watershed... a whole new world of possibilities.
On computers:
for online meetings, I have used webex and Zoom extensively. Both are good and there are options for different type of evnets. Zoom has a more intuitive user experience and easier video integration.
for real time colaboration, my team have uesd Jabber.
There are many choice on smart phones - WeChat is very popular among China users, for personal or business.

I've used Webex previously and liked, but never used Zoom neither Jabber... Gonna to look it up.
For mobile here Whatsapp is more common than WeChat.

We use business skype and it works well. However, virtual communication can be challenging so it is best to have a face to face meeting from time to time.

Some people suggested me to use BlueJeans... I must confess I didn't see great advantages comparing it to Skype.
Again, as I was talking to Sromon, I am trying to find more (and maybe new) ways to enhance the engagement, collaboration and morale between team members, so the tools may become just what they are: tools, and not a big issue.

I managed remote teams, remotely for 6 years. Always webex and office communicator on Outlook. Webex Personal room is now much more effective, however, lot of people use and like Skype a lot.
