Does any of you are handling (or have handled) remote teams?
If so, what communication tools are you using? Are they being effective or you still face misunderstanding or response delays?
In my case we've already used Ryver, Trello, Skype and even Whatsapp, one complementing another.
Two important areas-
1. Make sure that all the team members have some overlapping time to connect with each other
2. Have daily scrum call over webex or Skype.

Thank you Sonali,
We already do the 2nd point (Skype), but I'll pay more attention to the 1st point you mentioned.

Suleander -
I would also consider collaborative information repositories such as wikis (e.g. Confluence) to work well with remote teams.
At the Agile Alliance 2016 conference, during the virtual collaboration breakout session we had a demo of presence technologies such as an iPad motorized stand which can be used to enable remote viewers to actually look at who is speaking and to make simple gestures like nodding...
Personally, I can't wait till AR becomes seamless enough that you can enter an empty meeting room, put on your AR glasses and "see" your team even if there are scattered across the globe!

Thanks Kiron!
We started using Ryver with that purpose, but now we are tending to use #slack instead, lets see how it works in our context. Have used Confluece in a previous job and it has its advantages too.
For sure AR is a watershed... a whole new world of possibilities. Saving Changes...

On computers:
for online meetings, I have used webex and Zoom extensively. Both are good and there are options for different type of evnets. Zoom has a more intuitive user experience and easier video integration.
for real time colaboration, my team have uesd Jabber.
There are many choice on smart phones - WeChat is very popular among China users, for personal or business.
Hi Daning,
I've used Webex previously and liked, but never used Zoom neither Jabber... Gonna to look it up.
For mobile here Whatsapp is more common than WeChat.
Thanks! Saving Changes...

We use business skype and it works well. However, virtual communication can be challenging so it is best to have a face to face meeting from time to time.
Hi Rami,
Some people suggested me to use BlueJeans... I must confess I didn't see great advantages comparing it to Skype.
Again, as I was talking to Sromon, I am trying to find more (and maybe new) ways to enhance the engagement, collaboration and morale between team members, so the tools may become just what they are: tools, and not a big issue.
Thank you!

Suleander, I believe you may have narrowed you problem statement down some when you say you are wanting to “enhance the engagement, collaboration and morale between team members”.
You are right, the tools are just the tools, how well they are deployed rests in the hands of the Project Leader and his/her team.
Have you tried canvassing the team members to gather their perceptions as to what’s working/not working/CIP ideas.
Something I have experienced in the past is the frustration on the part of team members when you flip-flop between tools constantly looking for the next best thing. The tools are the tools, choose one, stick with it and optimize its use among your team.

I managed remote teams, remotely for 6 years. Always webex and office communicator on Outlook. Webex Personal room is now much more effective, however, lot of people use and like Skype a lot.
Hi Deepa,
Must confess... I am part of the ones who love Skype... Specially the new version! Found it modern and elegant! And the quality of the calls has been improved btw.
Thanks Saving Changes...

I’ve been matrix managing remote project teams for many years at my company.
We utilize WebEx effectively in regularly scheduled Team meetings (I place emphasis on a good Agenda; review of an Action Item Tracker, typically in Excel, Project Plan review, reviews issues and next steps).
Sharepoint is a good depositor for document storage and Team collaboration.
I highly recommend getting to meet/know your remote team members F2F at some point (preferably early in the Project) if possible. Having interaction with your team members at a personal level helps diminish the distance between team members. Best of luck! Saving Changes...
