Does any of you are handling (or have handled) remote teams?
If so, what communication tools are you using? Are they being effective or you still face misunderstanding or response delays?
In my case we've already used Ryver, Trello, Skype and even Whatsapp, one complementing another.
I have always used the tools and systems the Organization provides me with example
Cisco WebEx, Lync, Zoom,Skype.
Due to Time Zones, I will be considered to initiate meetings earlier in the mornings so OffShore can be part of the call.
I will send out group emails and sometimes a side note just to the Team Member alone for friendly reminders and follow ups.The Offshore team never turns me down they always respond and are engaged with Onsite folks. Saving Changes...

We had used a tool Edifire for video. But what really solved the problem for us is planning the overlap hours. We have to ensure that the team understands the importance of those overlap hours and make the most of it. While, communication tools like Skype, Webex etc. definitely improve the communication experience, we have to have the goal of making the most of the overlap hours. That's when you wouldn't even feel that part of the team is half a world away. Saving Changes...

At project launch it is preferable to have the whole team together in the same (real) room.
During the day-by-day, Skype is in my opinion good enough, it even helps to have more focused meetings, because you need to go straight to the point Saving Changes...

I have worked remotely and managed remote teams. All we used was Skype4Business. IMO all it takes is effort and will to collaborate with teams given that technology is not really a limiting factor.

I would echo what Sromon Das says. The tool you use isn't as important as the attitude and work ethic of the people using the tools. I've struggled to communicate with others in the past because of their lack of professionalism and inflexible approach to their work. That same struggle can happen with collocated teams as well as remote. That said--I like Slack and Zoom as a communication suite. Both are inexpensive and get the job done. Saving Changes...
