I am new to this community and surprised about people who "collected" a network of +70.000 people and keep sending network requests without a single word.

In a way the influence score is one indication of the interaction with connections, but not a true or detailed one. As Kiron points out, that would be a welcome addition.

Hi Mike,
I see several good reasons why one should have many connections (I do not have many connections yet but I am working on it) :
- you are already connected with the people you interact with ; connecting with people you don't know will open doors for learning new things
- you can contribute more : help and reach more people by participating in discussions
- you get more help and of better quality if you need it : people in this community are willing to help and when you ask a question you have a better chance of getting a good answer if you have a wider network.
I'll send you a connection request just in case :-)

Your activity feed is built around your connection's activity - which can bring insight into additional content otherwise [potentially] overlooked.

Aside from that, it is up to those that be.
