Project deadlines are important but project quality is also equally important. Delivering a quality project meeting deadline is a challenge. I havd observed that the goal is achieved by compromising between the two. I would like to know your thoughts and ideas on this issue.

Agree with Sante.
Keep in mind the Iron Triangle / Triple Constraint.

Nandkishor -

Always understand the relative priority of project constraints (scope, schedule, cost, quality) - that will make it easier to decide what to do.

In construction, we always say: Safety First, Quality Follows and Progress Last.

follow the 5 constraints. scope, schedule, cost, risk, quality(don't miss the last one!). Carve the scope so quality is also taken in schedule. Compromising on quality will get more production bugs(risk) and hence the cost and customer satisfaction.

Quality always gets the top priority apart from safety in construction work as mentioned by Rami.
But if you are having this challenge quite often, maybe you need to look in to the way you are estimating effort required or the way you are scheduling things (root cause of issue), are your deadlines even realistic....

Quality gets my vote . can always have a change request for time and cost extension as long as the product , service or outcome is delivered according to the Quality management plan and meets the Customer/Stakeholder Quality Expectations.

Project quality should always come first. Meeting a deadline with inferior results makes no sense. I have seen this practice in action. Teams report that they have completed all their work and move on to their next task. What happens next is an emergency fix to correct the sloppy work turned in.They make all kind of excuses.

Moral to the story is trust no one until you see a respectable track record on deliverables.

I agree with all the comments here, quality is paramount especially in healthcare industry.
