Hi – I am looking for help in deciding on my next step in project management education or certification. I currently have a PMP, as well as a Master’s Certificate in Project Management. I also received an MBA about 10 years ago. As I am looking to eventually get out into the consulting world (I am now at a large financial institution), I was wondering what people thought made sense – should one pursue another “Knowledge Based” certification, or one of the “Competency Based” programs, like an ASAPM Certification. Any guidance would be appreciated. Thanks!!!! Saving Changes...
Todd,
you have education and certs up to your eyeballs. Forget getting more of them. Get out there and advertise your successes in the industry. I have been in consulting for years now with my BS and PMP, neither of which is as important as good old fashioned know-how and a track record of successes. Saving Changes...
Focus on your soft skills as a PM and gain experience that will validate your abilities. Your certification only shows that you have experience and can pass a test; your experience as a PM and the success you have in your project management abilities will promote you to new heights.
Seek out assistance at your local PMI chapter. Saving Changes...
