I am preparing for PMP certification, keeping in mind the recent upgrade in PMBOK and changes in exam pattern from march, what is better for career, a certificate based on PMBOK 5 or PMBOK 6 (which includes Agile)? Saving Changes...

If you are looking for a career, you are looking to the future. The most current knowledge is always better then.
For me, the largest benefit of a certificate, was and is the confidence and knowledge I gained, not the title. Saving Changes...
My understanding the exam is on PMBOK and will not give you a certification on Agile.
I was never ask the version of PMBOK I pass my exam on!

If you pass, the PMP certificate will be given to you irrespective of which edition you studied from but if you want for your own benefit, I would agree with Thomas, the latest is the greatest because it contains the most recent info.

PMP designation once accomplished does not differentiate b/t the PMBOK version tested against. That said, it is in our best interest to remain vigilant in remaining apprised of changes within our industry/profession. So whatever test version you sit, stay in the game, with focus on areas you feel will add value to your career. Saving Changes...

Many Thanks to all the friends!
I see some really great points here. One is that staying current is most important and other is that PMP is a PMP, not to be judged on the basis of year he got certified or PMBOK version.
I was confused because there is only two months left, where one can go for an exam which is somewhat predictable (to whatever degree). On the other hand, in any case all existing PMP's would be going through PMBOK 6 at some point of time in next 3-4 years, then why not keep that as a target and do what every aspirant is afraid of? Looks like I am going to sit for exam sometime in June. Hope headfirst brings out their version of PMBOK 6, I found it really useful (the current version). Saving Changes...

One difference between Ed 5 and Ed 6 is that learning support (mock exams, training books, courses, trainers) for the former is available in abundance, while it is only being announced for the latter (it is not known yet publicly which kind of questions will be added to the exam). This is an argument to sit for the exam for Ed 5, if you want to do it in early 2018.
If a PMP is interviewed for a job and tells that he has the certificate for more than 6 years, I would ask if and how he ensured to stay current with the content of PMBoK. Shows the interest in the profession (same for a medical doctor, BTW). Saving Changes...
I would say that you appear before 26th Mar. There is plenty of study material available like Thomas mentioned to prepare for exam based on 5th edition.
The only problem you could possibly face is getting an available date for appearing in exam. And it is going to take a lot of effort due to less time available for preparation. Saving Changes...
