The PMI defines a project as a temporary endeavor undertaken to create a unique product, service or result. It's true that The Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct is very clear in its first approach but what about mores, customs, religious principles and many other values which vary from country to country?

PMI's Code of Ethics is just one influencer. Cultural values and organizational policies, standards & values will also need to be respected.

The point is. PMI Code of Ethics is there because a requirement from the USA Committee that recognizes certifications. No more than that. Project Manager Professionals as not legaly actionable, the Code of Ethics is not legally actionable, just in case on bad practices like in other professions like Medicine. In fact, that is because we are not considered professionals in the "formal" use of the term (like a Medical Doctor for example). Beyond that, most of the companies create its own code of ethics and you have to adhere and follow it to work inside an organization including the organization can legally act against you in case of bad practice. Above all or that is the laws of each country you are performing your activities which is really complex in case like my case where I am working in projects where several countries are involved (that is because I have support for the legal business unit into each initiative). Over all these stuff are yourself. But this is a quit interesting discussion to take that belongs to philosophy and there is not enough space to do that here. Take into account that it started with Greek and some people say that before of the Greeks.

The organization should have a Code of ethics that require more than the PMI.
The application may change from country to country.
PMI could in theory revoke certifications base on the non respect of the Code of Ethics. I don't know if it was ever done.

I totally agree with Kiron - There are more influencers besides the PMI code of Ethics depending on where you live / work.

Thank you so much for the different point of view, in conclusion we may consider that our capabilities are still very limited in regard of local law specific to each country.
