All of the text books as well as PMI stress the fact that communication is key in all aspects of project management and also in organizations at large.

My perception is that this is something that organizations have some difficulty with.

I believe that communication skills are a key strength in leadership.

Throughout my career I have had the opportunity to work alongside many people and I have often found that a good proportion of people managers are not very good at "communicating".

They don't provide sufficient feedback and are not comfortable with doing so.

Have you experienced something similar in your careers.

The problem is do not understand what communication really is. I really exhausted to hear about problem on communication, I really exhausted to be part of lot of training along the years most of them following new waves, and lot of other things. Communication is a buzzword from years and lot of people or consulting firms are still making money but letting lot of problems outside there. As in other type of things we need to go to the basement. All you need to know if outside there from years. First, to understand we are human being and to understand all related to communication you have to understand the Isaac Newtons Laws or Universal Movement. To understand all related to communication and beyond applied beyond human being you have to understand Shannon Theory of Information. In fact, quantum physics (more specifically Dr. James Gates which was the main scientific consultant of Obama) has discover correction codes in things like DNA chain. If you understand both, mainly Shannon, you will understand how to manage the fact that face to face communication is obsolete in today connected, virtual, distributed project management world (I am no saying it does not work. It is the best).

I think the problem is that good communication skills is a phrase so overused, that it’s hard to know what it’s really saying.
It’s all about transmitting and receiving messages clearly, but people often fail to read the audience and I have experienced this issue throughout in my career.

Communication plays a very important role not only in project management scenario but also in general. We need to communicate right message to the right people through appropriate channel where many organisations fail to implement good practices.
If organisations doesn't have appropriate process for communication then it affects the project's success.

Absolutely! That's why I frequently quote George Bernard Shaw's famous quote "The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place."

Even though good practices in communication have been well understood for close to a century (if we go back to Dale Carnegie's How to Win Friends and Influence People), those lessons just don't seem to get learned.

Now, we have greater challenges as the competing demands on people's time and the number of communication channels or options available have increased dramatically over the past couple of decades.

Kiron, this is so true ""The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place."
