Whenever deploying an ERP project, one is usually faced with an obstacle of choosing between software and the industrial process. Although many ERP software claim they got 90% of the best practices of any industry, yet in practice it turns out to be different. How can one ensure that the (claimed) best practices of any ERP software are successfully deployed to enhance the business processes of any specific industry?

First recognize that "Best Practice" is usually a non verifiable claim, like "world class". The best practive for your industry isn't nearly as important as the most effective practice for your company. That practice can only be defined in context to the strategic direction and business objcectives of the company and in context to providing desired stakeholder value. Substitute outcome for practice and think in terms of what are the best outcomes that each core business process must deliver in order to meet the value expectations of customers, owners, employees and strategic alliances. Now focus on what the barriers and challenges are for achieving those outcomes. Redefine the processes around removing those barriers then drill down to the systems level to identify the underlying ERP requirements. Use those to evaluate "ERP" systems and you will improve your chances for success imeasurably.
