I am hearing agile works good if it's co-located teams, so may not be there for long time as business is global and teams are spread out.
Many are using Hybrid models instead of just agile.

From more than 25 years ago I am working with virtual teams with people highly distributed along the whole world. I am using Agile as a practice including it Agile based methods to create software and non-software products. And its work. Co-located teams and fully dedicated people are the ideal team no matter you use Agile or not. But it is impossible (I think) to get that in the actual world (in fact the same in the past). So, key is to find ways to deal with that.

Shivanjali -

While there is no doubt that face-to-face communication is the most effective method and collocated teams can be more efficient at knowledge transfer, virtual collaboration technologies have sufficiently advanced to enable scaled agile in both dispersed and distributed environments. The key with those is to ensure that everyone is trained on their basic usage and the team develops good ground rules for their usage.

I do recommend bringing teams together at strategic points over the life of a project and this practice has been baked into certain frameworks like SAFe.

It might also be wise on large projects to structure them to take advantage of geographical distribution.
