There are a number of software management tools that are used for project management scheduling, tracking and resource assignments. Each has its own pros and cons. During the past few years the organisations I worked for used MS Project, Workfront, Changepoint and Basecamp. The best solution depends on the criteria you have ensuring that the solution is fit for purpose. Is the project is a stand alone? Is it part of a program/portfolio? Are you better off having a stand alone solution? or a cloud based one? .. etc Budget, level of maturity within the organisation, portfolio and resources complexity, ease of use, accessibility ... all these factors come to mind as you choose the best software tool. It's a lot of work to do that Drake, but yes it can be done.
Depends on the nature of the project and organizational standards. In the past, MS Project and MS Excel but in the past few years, online lean/agile work management solutions like Jira.
