Intake & Prioritization Process

For those of you who have implemented some type of a project intake/prioritization process within your organization - how is it working? what did you do to get over reluctance, how did you deal with the change management aspect?

I was in charge to create the process. I took the same model which is used in some selling methods where you have prospects than could be customers at the end. We tied all this with our process of demmand management and busines analyst are the key role in charge of all the process. We start the process when we have proposals in place where some of them will be projects at the end. The important thing (and most often forgotten) is not the priritization method. Is the prioritization criterias.Our whole process is lead by value creation taken some ideas from MoV and MoP process.

This is no different than any other change initiative - follow Kotter or anyone else's model but it comes down to ensuring people understand why the change is necessary (and why right now!), how it will make their lives better (and worse!) and communicating frequently and clearly to dispell any myths, rumors or misconceptions.

I would suggest starting within one particular portfolio rather than at the enterprise level - iron out the governance model, roles & processes there and then scale it to the enterprise.

I'd also suggest starting off simple - a basic project intake form, a simple scoring model to support evaluation, selection & prioritization and so on.

Also, remember that project intake/prioritization is useless without some rudimentary resource capacity tracking so make sure that's in place too.
