What potential legal other than human rights legislation?

Other than human rights legislation, what other potential legal challenges related to managing people do we need to be proactive about, and who is responsible for making sure we are in compliance?

Well these days you almost need a law degree to navigate the legal minefield that is free speech or the lack thereof. Depending what country you are in, this can have connotations for international projects.

Usually an organization's HR function is there to support and monitor compliance with such regulations as well as internal HR policies.

As Sante indicates, such legislation is geographically specific so it is possible that in a country which does not have mature human rights regulations, an employee might seek legal action for behavior which falls outside of such regulations.

The organization rules, local laws, and international legislation all need to be apply like Sante and Kiron stated.

Plus in many case you will have the contractual terms that may have additional requirement, such has client organizational rules.
