Hi,

What other means of strategy operationalisation (do you ever use the term?) apart from project portfolio, do you know? That is, how can you orerationalise strategy if not through implementing the portfolio approach?

Does anybody have experience in, for example Aris Business Strategy software or sth like that?

Thanks for contributing :)

I haven't come across the term much, but isn't it basically the link between strategy and it's implementation? This would be managed by the head of the initiative, whether it be PMO manager, portfolio manager etc. It's the first time I have seen Aris Business Strategy software.

Building a bridge between strategy fomulation and execution is exactly the purpose of PMI's new initiative: brightline.org.
Have a look.

When you operationalise you translate high level objectives into measurable steps. The term is commonly used by academics when they discuss how to operationalise research objectives. The interesting thing is that while I was doing my research, I found out that in some companies they use the word on a daily basis while in other, they don't know what it means, and it didn't depend on their level of project / portfolio management maturity. It is probably evidence for how hermetic a corporate language can be - once established terms become fixed for a long time and new names for the already defined concepts are not welcome. So those cultures which use the word operationalisation must have been introduced to the term at the beginning, that is at the time the methodology was implemented. And then they just stick to it.

Anyway, whether you call it operationalisation or execution... do you know any other methods / tools / techniques / software etc. (other than project portfolio) that can be implemented to deliver strategic goals?

Does anybody have experience in using balance score card for strategy execution?
