How is Stanford Advanced Project Management (SAPM) program perceived in the industry? Is it complimentary to PMP certification? What would be the value add? I understand that some other universities also provide similar courses?

Stanford is a top US national university. There is no denying that fact (see US World Reports). For over 30 years Stanford has ranked in the top 5 US National Universities for engineering, MBA's, law, and medicine. For that reason, Stanford is a favorite with top corporations and recruitment firms around the world.

Unfortunately, Stanford, MIT, Harvard, University of Chicago, Texas, Wharton, Emory, degrees and certificates/certifications or your name on their letterhead signifying you actually completed a course of study at their school is not so easy to obtain.

Ask yourself:
1.) What is the value of an MBA, medical, law, or engineering degree from any top 100 USA university? What is the degree or certificate worth from one of these schools?? Answer: Earn one and fined out.

2.) What is the value of ANY institution certification that is not from an accredited (regionally or national) school administering a Pay-For-Test that over 200,000 people have passed that is meant to measure a level of competency worth? (All US accredited universities/colleges are listed with the US Department of Education).

In my opinion, any academic course of study that Stanford, Harvard, Yale, MIT, or any accredited university or college has granted to a student means something! Period!

Question to you:
Would you attend and pay for classes at a non accredited school??

Hopefully your good judgment will answer your question.

One thing to consider is the difference between education and accredition. You are no more a PM after completing a degree or course than you are a doctor after finished a medical degree. You still have to earn your stripes the hard way!

As someone hiring PMs I am more interested in accreditation (PMP etc) as this demonstrates practical application of the education.

As PMBoK consistently highlights "expert judgement" is necessary and this can only be gained through hard won experience and aided by good mentoring.
